Wheal Coates

Ref: S5-4030
Wheal Coates mine, St Agnes. I setup the camera with the Towanroath engine house on the right of the frame, and the Milky way arching through the sky on the left. You can see the 'pan' part of the 'Plough' (sometimes called 'The big Dipper') to the right of the chimney. The top two stars point up to the North star (Polaris) just right of centre.
I shot a number of frames of the night sky, then I left the camera running while I popped down to the engine house, and lit it up using a touch. I was just about to move on, when I noticed a bank of clouds moving up from the horizon, so I had to carry on shooting while they passed overhead - with the wash of colour contrasting wonderfully with the cool tones of the night sky.
